The AMF/Wen Mac "Motorized Mustang GT" Poppy Red hardtop was a Dealer
Promotional Model offered in the fall of 1965. It is 16" long, approximately
1/12th-scale. It was sold through Ford dealers for $6 originally and $4.95
during the Christmas selling season. It has knock-off wheelcovers, standard
interior (without console), simulated V-8 engine (valve covers and block done
in interior color), GT-like stripes (originally packaged for owner
installation), and molded plastic license plates. The battery-operated motor
propels it forwards and backwards. It has working headlights, taillights and
dashboard lights. The body is plastic and the chassis is steel. The front
wheels are adjustable for steering. Mine also includes the optional $2.50 conversion kit for racing buffs that includes a gasoline engine and slicks. I have these installed, but it has never been run! A remote-control throttle could also be added. It was $10 extra for all of this in 1965! This model is complete with original box, electric motor and battery tray, optional gas engine, instruction manuals for both gas and battery engines, and racing tether. |
